Now I would perhaps include the genie and possession powers, however my yak-folk is an exile, the genie commanding powers are for sure given by their god so he'd lack this, but I'm not too sure if the case is the same for possession.
That's about all I've got so far, but I'm unsure if this sounds okay as as race, any suggestions? EDIT: which is to say, I'd probably never allow the player to have the possession power.
I don't think Yak-folk get exiled. Dissenters are killed, IMO. Don't wanna allow possession, thinking about it, if it's unclear as to its origin, I'll just attribute it to the faceless god and as he's no longer a follower he lacks that ability. I'm aware should of stated the character is more of a runaway than an exile because he realized that some things he'd found out would cause him to be labelled a dissenter and killed.
Labyrinth Recall is easy to refluff as something else, and as people that make their living roving across mountains, it makes sense that they would naturally be able to avoid getting lost. Midani is the language they speak.
One of the more interesting differences is in magic. Most mages have gen--teensy genie-like elementals--as familiars, and they actually have to fly off to find the spell and hand it off to the mage. IIRC, spells take longer to cast but you can cast higher level spells than you normally could. Apart from some serious family drama, I'd be most worried about the PC being Large and the attunement detail - those two things are where you could be OP, but I have no strong argument against right now.
The possession bit could be a learned ability so the PC doesn't need to have it. I would dial back the STR bonus because of the Large size, since if you're using Large weapons you get another die of damage that's how it works, right? Might alter attunement to only as wizard for all magic items but that's more just because mystic than a race bonus.Raptorborn are people descended from and sharing ubiquitous characteristics with ancient pack predators. They themselves are precursors to the varied species of birds-of-prey that exist today.
As such, raptorborn take the form of humanoid beings mostly covered in a thick coat of short, bristle-like feathers that may be striped, spotted, or splotchy in pattern.
Their long, rounded snouts, forearms, and lower legs are devoid of this covering, instead bearing a scaled hide. Most are colored in subdued, earthy tones, though males tend to be more brightly colored, and often sport a crest-like mane of feathers that reacts with the raptorborn's mood. Their bright colors serve to attract mates and show off their virility.
Their eyes are often green or yellow in color, with a smaller number featuring blue or violet hues. Raptorborn likely were created alongside the dinosaurs towards the end of the sarrukh kingdom's reign during the days of thunder. Like the yuan-ti, they were probably humans who lived before the age of man came to be. Creatures like lizardfolk and dragons existed, but dinosaurs were a deadly mix of the two. From the mix came the raptors, who were small and fast wicked little things.
The sarrukh experimented on the humans, mixing the races. The raptorborn were thus created. They did not enjoy life too long as soon the sarrukh fell and the yuan-ti usurped power. The deity of the yuan-ti was cruel and the raptorborn fled from his influence, refusing to worship him. They found refuge outside the reaches of Mhairshaulk, where they lived in relative fear and seclusion. When the god became unresponsive and other races assailed the empire, the raptorborn quickly surrendered to incoming human forces and swore them aid.
After the battle was over, raptorborn were free to walk with the humans, though the yuan-ti never forgot their perceived betrayal. Raptorborn often live in temperate or warm rainforests in tribes. However, thanks to the bravery and deeds of their ancestors, they can venture forth to other settlements and cities without fear of stigma. In a way, they are regarded as dragonfolk. Raptorborn are all too eager to interact, trade with, and assist different peoples, assuming that no hostile intent is shown to them.
They are thought to be timid in new environments, despite their eagerness. At the back of their mind usually lurks the wonder of what evil thoughts another creature may be scheming.
As such, divination magic into another creature's thoughts is a highly praised skill in raptorborn society. This timidness does not change the fact that, when threatened, raptorborn are capable combatants.Be civil to one another - Unacceptable behavior includes name calling, taunting, baiting, flaming, etc.

This mostly asking if it is possible in the provided guidelines, not whether they are the most optimal choice. Lower its HP to 15 and I think you'll be fine. Deinonychus does more damage than the panther and has a higher AC, but the panther is faster, has a climbing speed, is proficient in stealth, and has the Keen Smell feature, so I think it evens out. Technically, velociraptor can but you would have to remove the multiattack feature and deinonychus can't 4 hd unless your DM allows it.
It's still marginally stronger than the other options so if he's a stickler for rules and balance I'd rule the Deonychus doesn't get the ability score increase at level 4 but does at 8 and above. I love the idea of removing hit dice from creatures for the rangers animal companion. To me, it sounds like you're making an immature version. A baby dinosaur or whatever! A deinonychus is bright green along its back and flanks, with a much lighter shade of the same color on its underside.
The body has darker spots or stripes. Its tail extends straight out behind itself, held aloft by an intricate structure of bony supports, thus allowing its weight to be carried entirely by the back legs. It weighs about pounds. A deinonychus uses a combination of speed, grasping forearms, large teeth, and hind legs with ripping talons.
It hunts by running at prey, leaping, and ripping with its rear talons as it claws and bites. The talons count as one attack. A deinonychus has a relatively large brain for a dinosaur, and its pack hunts with cunning tactics.

Social Predators. Sunset raptors have developed remarkably efficient pack tactics. They communicate using shrill, piercing calls, sacrificing the element of surprise in favor of swiftly coordinated attacks. Often, the fastest raptors run ahead of the pack, cutting off potential prey.
